A Message to Somalia's Youth: The Future Is Yours to Shape.
Today, our beloved Somalia stands at a pivotal moment in history. We face undeniable challenges; political instability, terrorist threats, economic hardship, and environmental crises. Yet where some see despair, I see extraordinary opportunity. Some may call us a failed state, but I see a nation being reborn.
Decades of conflict have tested our strength, yet we remain unbroken. Terrorist groups have tried to crush our resolve, but our spirit is indomitable. Even those who once sought opportunity abroad now return, driven by an unshakable love for this land and a fierce determination to rebuild it.
These struggles are real, but they do not define us. History teaches us that great nations are not built in times of comfort, they are forged in adversity. Like Japan and Germany after war, like Rwanda after tragedy, Somalia too shall rise. And you, the youth of Somalia, are the architects of this rebirth.
You are our brightest hope. You are the most educated generation in our history. Technology connects you, empowering you to innovate and unite. Born in hardship, you dream of peace and progress and already, that dream is taking shape. Look around: entrepreneurs are building businesses, professionals are returning with new skills, and change is unfolding, because of you.
I envision a Somalia where:
1. Peace prevails and dialogue replaces violence.
2. Education and innovation drive our economy beyond aid dependency.
3. Our ports, farms, and tech hubs restore our place as a regional leader.
This future is not a fantasy, it is a choice we make today. It begins with:
Believing in ourselves and rejecting the narrative that Somalia is doomed.
Rejecting division and recognising that unity is our greatest strength.
Taking action whether through education, business, or leadership.
Some say Somalia is where dreams go to die. I say it is where resilience is reborn. It has been my honor to stand with you in this struggle. I know you can overcome historical burdens, geographical challenges, and political obstacles to build the Somalia we deserve. The scars of war run deep—no celebration or prayer alone will heal them. True success demands vision, hard work, and leadership stronger than the forces trying to divide us.
Our history teaches a crucial lesson: If tolerance and diversity cannot flourish here, they will struggle everywhere. The real battle is not between clans or regions; it is between those who choose coexistence, tolerance, and unity and those who cling to division and violence.
If we apply the same relentless energy we’ve used to build our infrastructure; telecommunications, financial systems, schools, hospitals, universities, roads, and power grids, to reforming our politics, we will revolutionize our nation.
I entered public service young and uncertain, but convinced that fresh perspectives were needed. I still believe in a future where innovation transforms governance, a future worth fighting for.
This journey has been the greatest adventure of my life filled with triumph and heartbreak, unbreakable bonds and painful losses. I cherish every struggle we’ve shared, every hope we’ve nurtured together.
Politics brings exhaustion and setbacks, but also purpose and passion. I have known both, and I would trade none of it. When asked why I still believe in Somalia, my answer is simple: because I believe in you.
Keep shining, my brilliant diamonds.
The Somali spirit is unbreakable. Our past has tempered our resilience; our struggles have prepared us for greatness. The future rests in your hands.
Remember: The phoenix rises from the ashes. Somalia too shall rise stronger, wiser, and united.
Will you be part of this rising?
